STATEMENT BY ICAO ON IRANIAN AIRBUS DESTRUCTION
Montreal, July 1988 -- The International Civil Aviation Organization
(ICAO) is deeply shocked at the destruction, on 3 July 1988, of the IRAN AIR
Airbus over the Strait of Нormuz and the death of 290 passengers and crew
aboard and expresses its condolences to the Government of the Islamic Republic
of Iran and to the families of the victims.
The policy of ICAO is aimed at the safeguarding of safety and regularity of
civil flights along the approved ATS (Air Traffic Services) routes and is
strongly opposed to the use of weapons against civil aircraft .
The President of the Council is currently consulting Council Members as to
further action to be taken in this respect.
